Michael is the newest member of Sutherland-Chan’s senior management team. He joins Sutherland-Chan as Director of Admissions, with a diversity of experience in the private sector and within the Independent school system. His recent experiences in management include Director of Admissions at Appleby College, Associate Director of Admissions and Media Liaison at Upper Canada College. In both positions he managed the admissions staff, was responsible for the enrollment process and was successful in developing strategic plans that increased the number of capable students from wider national and international geographic areas. In addition, Michael was the co-founder of the boarding school fair program which is currently being implemented for all CAIS schools and was a board member of the Association of Boarding Schools (Washington, D.C.)

Michael also has extensive knowledge in media relations. At Maclean’s magazine he created and launched “The Partnership Program” a subscriber acquisition strategy and was responsible for media contact regarding University rankings. Michael also has experience in the not-for-profit sector previously holding senior management positions at the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and the Metro Chapter of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Michael graduated form the University of Toronto with a B.Ed (Elementary), and a B.PHED from Brock University. As Director of Admissions, his responsibilities include creating plans and strategies towards new student recruitment, developing internal admission protocol and procedures, management of the admission staff, and liaison with the SC alumni.

Michael’s competitive drive that won him 10 National Rowing Championships while head coach of Upper Canada College combined with his relevant marketing knowledge makes him a key player to the future vision of Sutherland-Chan.
