As Director of Education, Paul is responsible for overseeing all educational aspects of Sutherland-Chan's program, including both the academic and clinical components.Athough Paul is not a massage therapist by profession, he has broad experience as a health care practitioner, educator, administrator, and researcher.

Paul received his initial qualifications from the Glasgow School of Podiatric Medicine in 1983. After spending a number of years in practice he moved to Ontario to teach at the Toronto General Hospital, and since then has completed a Master of Science degree and a Doctorate in Higher Education.

Paul's major clinical interests are in wound management /limb salvage, surgery and biomechanics. Beyond this, his experience has included management and coordination of clinicious, clinical educators, academic faculty and students, curriculum design, teaching, and research. Recent/ongoing research activities with which Paul has been involved include work investigating the effects of massage therapy on clients with MS, and motivations related to massage therapy education. Paul's research interests also include curriculum design, iatrogenic disease, and plantar foot pressures in people with diabetes. He has to his credit a number of publications in peer reviewed journals such as Medical Education and The Foot and Medical Teacher.
