Virginia graduated as a Doctor's Office assistant from Winnipeg Herzing Institute and worked for a GP/MP thereafter for three years. After braving six years of Winterpeg blizzards and freezing temperatures, she decided to move her family to Toronto in 1989.

Virginia worked at the Toronto General Hospital's Chiropody Department for 12 years, ultimately achieving the position of Administrative Secretary until the department's closure in July 2001.
