Sutherland-Chan Specialty Clinics & Outreaches

At Sutherland-Chan we are particularly proud of our specialty clinics. These are held both on-site at the school and off-site at a variety of health care and institutional settings. The intent of these clinics is to broaden our students' educational experience and to provide massage therapy for clients with diverse physical and psychosocial needs. As is the case in regular Student Clinic, massages are provided by a student under the guidance of a qualified supervisor. The specialty clinics conducted on the school premises are as follows:

Dancers Clinic: The name says it all. If you are a dancer and require either treatment or relaxation massage, please contact our Student Clinic Reception at 416-924-1107 ext.10.

M.S. Clinic: This clinic provides massage therapy for people who have multiple sclerosis. Clients are usually referred to us through the MS Society, but this is not mandatory. The beneficial effects of massage therapy typically reported by our MS Clinic clients include improved circulation, mobility, and energy levels. For further information regarding the clinic, please contact Angela Rodriquez on the MS Society at 416-922-6063 ext. 3034.

Central Nervous Systems Clinic: As this clinic's name suggests, the focus is on the provision of care for people with diseases of the Central Nervous System such as Parkinsons, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. Clients who have other less common neurological conditions can also receive massage therapy. Such conditions have so far included Friedrich's ataxia, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and spina bifida. Clients attending this clinic report that their mobility and comfort is greatly enhanced by the treatments they receive. For further information and to book appointments, please call our Student Clinic Reception at 416-924-1107 ext.10.

Pregnancy Clinic: The students working in this clinic provide massage treatment for expectant mothers to help offset the physical stresses and strains that can be associated with pregnancy, and to promote general relaxation. This clinic is held during the spring. For further information or to book an appointment, please contact our Student Clinic Reception at 416-924-1107 ext.10.

Sutherland-Chan Seniors Clinic: This is an on-site clinic dedicated to massage treatment for seniors who are essentially healthy and able to come to us. The treatments are focused on relaxation, improving circulation and range of motion, and working on those well-earned aches and pains. For further information or to book an appointment, please contact our Student Clinic Reception at 416-924-1107 ext.10.

Sports Events Outreach: Sutherland-Chan supervisors and students provide massage therapy at a variety of sporting events each year. If you are organizing such an event and would like to involve Sutherland-Chan, please contact Frank Marincola at 416-924-1107 ext 21.
